Taylor Swift - Speak NowAccording to the American Music Awards, the title of Artist of the Year belongs to Taylor Swift, the country superstar who has swept the nation off their feet with her fairytale-like charm and big blue eyes.

The star rose to catch the throne this year with her album, Speak Now. A few titles that have been raped by your local radio station include “Mine”, with its painfully catchy chorus and predictably young love undertones. Another song to top the Billboard charts is “Back to December”, a song pursuing a second chance with a long lost love.

Miss Swift, you have to be the only country star that I ever bothered to download and sing along to. Your lyrics got me through some of the toughest times I had to endure in high school. I’ve grown up now and figured out that a “Love Story” does not exist and my current love interests are not interested in choosing “Our Song”.

The one singer I can relate to at this point in my life has to be the brilliant voice which belongs to Adele.

The British native’s recent album release, 21, has surpassed 10 million copies as of September 2011. Fan favorites include: “Rolling in the Deep”, a gritty anthem targeted towards her ex-lover and “Someone Like You” a highly introspective track which is on repeat in my playlist.

Adele - Rolling in the deep

An unstoppable force, Adele’s performances have brought audiences to their feet and never has a performer literally brought chills to my body. Her superb execution of “Someone Like You” on MTV’s VMA’s this past August communicated her pain and anguish through my TV screen.

I’m not trying to put down Taylor Swift, she’s always going to be a favorite of mine, but her fate is similar to the past lovers of my life, I’ve retired her albums to my memories.

The title of Artist for MY Year is for the individual who has helped me through my personal struggles with romance: Adele.
