There was fighting, fainting and chanting - and that was just in the queue. Swedish House Mafia's second sold-out show at Alexandra Palace saw 10,000 ravers descend on north London for the wildest of the bank holiday weekend parties. All the usual house music ingredients were present and correct: punters in neon face paint, an eye-popping laser show, and conspicuously long queues to the cubicles. Yet the group - composed of Swedish DJs Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell - distinguished themselves from their button-pushing peers with a proper performance, complete with pogoing and pyrotechnics. Further points were gained for a setlist containing some left-field surprises. Alongside samples of Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams was Tinie Tempah, who collaborated on the group's best-known song Miami 2 Ibiza, had better things to do but Swedish singer John Martin, who features on new single Save The World, was in attendance. Even if he was miming. Arms were thrown aloft throughout but two hours in the company of Swedish House Mafia is plenty. Their trick - playing a short sample of a song then underpinning it with organ-rattling beats - is thrilling but formulaic. Eventually, they may need to devise a plan B. For now, though, this is working just fine. "We love you, London," said Rodger Federer-lookalike Angello as fireworks exploded above the crowd. London loved them back: Swedish House Mafia are made men.
