Interviews

As festival fever grips the nation, we caught up with some dance devotees to check out where they're heading to for 2010, what they'll be listening to at some of the world's top homegrown and overseas events, plus what they'll be wearing while they get well and truly spangled in the sunshine. The Silly Season is officially upon us; let hedonism commence!

Sebi, 26, Geoscientist from Kelheim, Germany.
Likes: Minimal Samba/Techno/House and "all good electronic music that makes you dance".
Festival CV: Sonne, Mond und Sterne, Green and Blue, Greenfields, Merkwürdiges Verhalten am Strand, Time Warp, Love Parade, Rave On Snow and Street Parade.

What festivals will you be heading to this year and why?
For sure I will go to Green and Blue in Frankfurt to see its new location, as it's always one of the best parties of the year. You'll find me at the Cocoon or Robert Johnson club to continue the party! I might check out Love Family Park also in Frankfurt and Merkwürdiges Verhalten. Love Family Park is great as it's right by the river.

I'll definitely be at Greenfields Open Air in Munich too as it's the biggest music festival in southern Germany and it attracts an international audience and is guaranteed to bring a touch of Ibiza with it.

Aly & Fila sit down for an interview with Antifm to discuss their new album "Rising Sun", their label and more. Take a look inside to learn more about the dynamic duo!

Aly El Sayed Amr Fathalla & Fadi Wassef Naguib, better known as Aly & Fila, are among today's most popular trance stars. Like many of us, they fell in love with trance music in the late 1990's with the works of Paul Van Dyk, Steve Helstrip and Chicane. Soon thereafter, they began to pursue an interest in production and DJing and from then on, the rest was history. Within the last few years their career has really taken off, with major gigs across the globe, the launch of Future Sound of Egypt and many successful single releases. After starting their music career over a decade ago, Aly & Fila have just released their first artist album, "Rising Sun", which is available to buy from Juno Records.

Rafael Frost

Rafaël Frost interview
Updated: Thursday 28th, May 2009

: Being a consistent releaser on Ferry Corsten’s Flashover Recordings label, Dutch DJ / producer Rafaël Frost continues to build his unique sound. Big remixes like Alex M.O.R.P.H. & Rank 1’s Life Less Ordinary and Bryan Adams’s Run To You (#1 at Beatport Charts) and releases like Worlds and Minimum (#1 Audiojelly Charts for 11 weeks in a row) have made Rafaël one of biggest upcoming talents of today. At the moment Rafaël's latest production 'Red' is being played by all the major DJ's out there.

Antifm:: Hi Rafaël, how are you doing?
Rafaël: Great, just had a great gig in Kiev, so that always motivates to get back in the studio and work on some new stuff!

Antifmradio:: Your new track ‘Red’ will be out soon on Flashover Recordings. The original version of ‘Red’ got massive support already by names such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond and it was Global Selection winner in Markus Schulz’ radio show Global DJ Broadcast twice in a row! How does it feel when there is such a hype around a track with lots of DJ support?
Rafaël: It's huge. You know, it's difficult to describe what you feel. When you create something with your own feelings in it, something personal and it gets picked up by practically every DJ out there and it's being spread throughout the whole world with the audience, that's just great!

Antifm:: Besides the original version there will be a Ferry Corsten remix of ‘Red’ on the release as well. Did he suggest to remix it or did you ask him?
Rafaël: As Ferry really liked the original track and was heavily supporting it already, he was glad doing a remix of it.
And as I like most of Ferry's productions, I did not say no, haha!

Scottish DJ and producer Kuffdam, along with studio partner Plant, has been behind some of the biggest recent trance hits such as 'Summer Dream', 'The Ones We Loved' and 'Dream Makers'. With his NETWORK artist album out on Vandit just released, we caught up with Kuffdam for a chat.

a

antifm:: Hey Kuffdam! Firstly congratulations on the release of your artist album. Tell us about it, what were your aims when starting it and do you think you have achieved them?

Kuffdam: Hey guys, nice to be chatting with you, I’m a big fan of trance.nu! Well the album is pretty much ready to go now, its in the shops from the 23rd Feb from what Vandit have told me and I can’t wait. Its been a long process from start to finish, well over a year and now I just can’t wait to get out and tour the tracks. The album itself is 10 tracks, some you know but not like this… and the rest all brand new. The main idea was just to put a package of material together that I was really proud of and that’s what I feel I have in the finished product, NETWORK.

antifm:: How long did it take you to complete?

K: Its been a good 12 to 18 months in total from the very first track through to the release. Its not something you can do over night and with holding down a job etc, its something I have worked away at in order to get what I wanted from it all.

Wally Lopez interview

Perennially referred to as Spain’s leading jock, Wally Lopez is a dance music tour de force. He is soon to release his Global Underground mix CD and is the latest in a long line of prodigious talents to have be charged with the honour.

The Spaniard, who runs Factoria Records and Factomania Group, can often be found wooing crowds at the best parties in the world (think Space, Ibiza, Exit Festival, MIinistry of Sound) whilst his productions and remixes also count many of the world’s top DJs as fans.

We caught up for a quick chat with Mr Lopez ahead of his appearance at Filth on June 12th.

How does it feel to be Spain’s leading DJ?

Well, it´s a great honour to know that some people think I´m leading the Spanish scene. But in Spain are too many great producers and DJs too. I´m just one of them who has always tried to learn and grow a little bit more.
